HVAC Test and Balance



I have six years experience as a TAB technician, five of which I worked as lead technician or project manager primarily with National Indoor Air Care (NIAC) of Kent, WA and Accurate Air Balancing of Beaveron, OR. I have worked on jobs ranging from small tenant improvements to larger projects for Boeing, Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and a variety of new construction. Systems that I have performed TAB work on include climate control systems, industrial paint booths, lab hoods, and clean rooms.

I am familiar with HVAC calculations including motor, supply/return, and heat gain/loss.

I have extensive experience with VAV, VVT, constant volume, multi-deck, and hydronic systems. My control experience includes  pneumatic, digital, and electronic systems such as VSD and DDC as well as building control and management programs. My project management and commissioning experience is primarily in new construction. I have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while achieving time and budget goals.

I have developed several spreadsheet applications to facilitate the most common TAB calculations and improve productivity in the field. They are designed for use on a PDA but could just as easily be run on a laptop or netbook. Clicking on the spreadsheet name will bring it up.

One market in which the benefits of TAB are not widely recognized is in the lodging industry. While many lodging chains and real estate holding companies are implementing energy reduction strategies, building recommissioning (Rcx) is not typically considered. I have written a paper on some of the considerations for Rcx in the lodging industry. There is also an accompanying presentation.
